Rooted in Jost's commitment to interdisciplinary rigour and practical applications, it drives machine reliability, resource conservation, and human health improvements, expanding from tribology to support relief from physical/mental disorders through scientific and engineering solutions.

It prioritises tribology education and research, scientific public education, medical advancements, and interventions for disabilities—funding emerging scientists, STEM students, children/adults with health challenges, and societal benefits via industry gains. Supported activities include research sponsorships (e.g., Jost Studentships with RNID for hearing research), specialist equipment, multisensory technologies (e.g., at Chadsgrove School), educational resources, and the Travel Fund for tribology-related travel. Beneficiaries span academic institutions, specialist schools, and voluntary bodies bridging science, medicine, education, and disability support.

Eligible entities are UK-registered charities and academic institutions, with no geographic base restrictions but funding focused on England/Wales activities; it prefers small- to medium-sized organisations with proven expertise, without strict income thresholds. General grants (£5,000–£50,000, occasionally higher for multi-year projects) are not open to unsolicited applications—trustees select recipients via networks. The Travel Fund accepts emailed CVs and statements (£500–£2,000), with deadlines 31 March and 30 September. It avoids core/unrestricted funding or routine rounds, distinguishing itself through targeted, high-impact capacity-building at engineering-medicine-education intersections for measurable public benefit.
