Postcode Neighbourhood Trust

The trust supports work in arts and culture, poverty and hardship relief, community development, and mental health. They fund a wide range of activities including community arts programmes, mental health and wellbeing services, poverty alleviation initiatives such as food banks and period poverty projects, and community development activities that build local resilience. Priority is given to organisations that are led by and serve communities experiencing racial inequity, disabled people, and LGBT+ people. The trust focuses its funding on the North of England, specifically the North East, North West, and Yorkshire and the Humber, with a particular emphasis on the most deprived areas. Grants are flexible and can cover core costs, helping organisations strengthen their long-term sustainability rather than relying on short-term project funding.

Eligible organisations include registered charities, community interest companies, and community benefit societies operating across the North of England. The trust prioritises organisations with modest annual income, particularly those led by and serving communities experiencing racial inequity, disabled people, and LGBT+ people. Groups working in the most deprived areas are especially welcome. The trust does not fund schools, faith-based organisations, individuals, or statutory bodies. Organisations must have been operating for at least one year and have signed accounts. The trust encourages applications from smaller grassroots groups that are deeply rooted in their local communities.

The trust does not fund medical research or clinical treatment, activities outside Great Britain, grants to individuals, retrospective costs, funding allocated to reserves, or statutory bodies such as NHS trusts and local councils. Political parties, party-political activities, and organisations with solely religious objects are not supported. Schools, nurseries, preschools, parent-teacher associations, and universities are also excluded. Causes related to animals or faith are not funded, and larger organisations with very high annual income are not eligible.

The trust provides multi-year, flexible grants, often unrestricted, to support core costs and organisational resilience. They actively encourage unsolicited applications and aim to keep the application process straightforward for smaller organisations. The trust is committed to reducing bureaucracy and giving grantees autonomy over how to use the funding.
