Rix-Thompson-Rothenberg Foundation

The Foundation funds work that promotes the relief of people with learning (intellectual) disabilities, particularly through care, education, training, development, and leisure activities. It prioritises inclusive arts programmes, sports and social groups, and accessible activities that build skills, networks, and cultural engagement. Funding supports education, leisure, wellbeing, and rights advocacy. The Foundation operates throughout England and Wales and supports charities working within this defined geographic area.

The Foundation supports UK-registered charities of all sizes, with a preference for smaller, local organisations. There are no income thresholds, religious restrictions, or geographic sub-limits within England and Wales. Beneficiaries must be people with learning disabilities of all ages, along with their carers. The Foundation welcomes applications from charities that share its focused mission on learning disability empowerment.

The Foundation does not fund research, standalone capital projects, individual aid, or international work. It also avoids generalist causes outside its narrow specialism in learning disability.

The Foundation supports project and core costs, covering revenue and some capital elements. It prefers to fund smaller, local charities and takes a hands-on, specialist approach grounded in trustees’ direct experience with the learning disability community.
