Sports Council for Wales

Sport Wales funds projects that dismantle participation barriers, address inequalities, and foster innovation. It supports inclusive sports for disabled people, women and girls, mental health initiatives, talent pathways, club capacity building, volunteer training, facility upgrades, and outreach for underrepresented groups. Key programmes include Crowdfunder, Energy Saving Grant, and A Place for Sport. Beneficiaries span young people, adults, grassroots clubs, voluntary organisations, and deprived areas across Wales. The funder operates across the whole of Wales, supporting activities that bring communities together through sport.

Eligible organisations include registered charities, community groups, and sports clubs based in or serving Wales. The funder prioritises grassroots clubs, voluntary organisations, and projects that benefit young people, adults, and deprived areas. It also supports outreach for underrepresented groups including disabled people, women and girls, and those from low-income or racially diverse backgrounds. There is no strict income limit, and applicants should demonstrate community benefit and open access.

Sport Wales does not fund non-community activities or projects that are misaligned with its values of equality, innovation, or sustainability. Projects that do not address participation barriers or fail to promote social inclusion are also unlikely to be supported.

Sport Wales welcomes unsolicited applications from eligible organisations. It funds projects and activities that align with its mission, supporting both grassroots participation and elite excellence. The funder works in partnership with the Welsh Government and other stakeholders to deliver its programmes.
